Strong development in revenues and earnings in the 2021 financial year
In 2021, the Pierer Industrie Group, the industrial group of Stefan Pierer, achieved again a record result. Despite major challenges in the global supply chains and the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic, Pierer Industrie AG improved its sales by almost 30% and thus achieved record revenues of € 2,728.3 million (+29.8%).
The two main business divisions PIERER Mobility AG and Pankl AG achieved significant increases in revenues. The listed PIERER Mobility AG increased its revenues in the 2021 financial year by a third to € 2,041.7 million (previous year: € 1,530.4 million). The Pankl AG also generated record revenues of € 709.1 million (previous year: € 583.4 million) last year.
The result from operating activities (EBIT) of € 220.7 million was more than doubled (previous year: € 96.9 million), which corresponds to an EBIT margin of 8.1%. The operating result before depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of € 423.6 million is around 50% higher than the previous year’s figure of € 280.6 million. The EBITDA margin is 15.5%.
Employees
As of December 31, 2021, the Pierer Industrie-Group employed a total of 9,530 employees; 5,249 of them in the PIERER Mobility-Group and 3,904 in the Pankl AG-Group. Around 1,200 employees, equates to almost 13% of the total workforce, work in the area of research & development. In 2021, the proportion of female employees was around 24.5%. As of the reporting date, there were around 360 apprentices undergoing training in more than 15 vocational training programs. The number of female apprentices has also grown steadily. This intensive apprenticeship training is an essential backbone in skilled worker development.
Investments
In the 2021 financial year, around € 283 million was invested in further growth (previous year: € 188.8 million). In addition to investments in property, plant and equipment of around € 147 million, just under € 120 million was invested in product development, especially in the powered two-wheeler segment.
