Pierer Industrie AG: Positive sales development in 2023

Sales and earnings performance in the 2023 financial year

The Pierer Industrie Group, Stefan Pierer’s industrial group, increased its turnover by almost 10% in 2023 despite the challenging global environment, reaching a turnover value of € 3,596.7 million.

Pierer Industrie recorded increases in revenue in both the two-wheeler group (PIERER Mobility AG) and the automotive group (Pankl AG). The listed company PIERER Mobility AG increased its turnover by 9.2% to € 2,661.2 million in the 2023 financial year. Pankl AG also increased its turnover by 11.9% to € 936.2 million in the past year.

At € 437.3 million, the operating result before depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) across the group was 9.4% below the previous year’s figure, with an operating result (EBIT) of € 208.0 million. The EBIT margin amounted to 5.8% and the EBITDA margin to 12.2%.

Employees

As at 31 December 2023, the Pierer Industrie Group employed a total of 11,040 people, of which 6,184 were employed in the PIERER Mobility Group and 4,373 in the Pankl AG Group. As at December 31, 2023, the group employed a total of 7,029 people in Austria. Around 1,800 employees, or 16% of the total workforce, work in research and development. In 2023, the proportion of female employees was 25.5%. As at the balance sheet date, there were around 480 apprentices undergoing training in more than 20 professions. The number of female apprentices has also grown steadily. This intensive apprenticeship training is a key backbone in the development of skilled labour.

Investments

In the 2023 financial year, € 359.7 million was invested in further growth (previous year: € 389.4 million). In addition to investments in property, plant and equipment totalling around € 126 million, around € 200 million was invested in product development, primarily in the two-wheeler sector. Around 79% of total investments were made in Austria.

Acquisition of the majority in MV Agusta S.p.A. in the two-wheeler group

An important milestone for the company was the acquisition of a majority stake in the Italian premium motorbike manufacturer MV Agusta S.p.A., in which KTM AG acquired a 25.1% stake already in November 2023. On March 15, 2024, KTM AG exercised the existing call option to acquire a majority stake in MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. ahead of schedule and increased its holding to 50.1%.
